I am thumbing through a book on Chaos Magic by Adrian Blackthorne, who is a member of the Gallery of Magick. As my powers have grown, and as I have grown disenchanted with the public Magical Orders, I have found chaos technique more appealing. Less tools, less ingredients and, sometimes, none of either. That time I cast a spell to see a black woman in an orange dress--to have it fulfilled in an hour--taught me a huge amount about magic, and myself. The only difference between my results and those that a Master would achieve is that a Master's would have been fulfilled faster. And that would be not because his skill is greater, but because he stands in a different relation to Time than I do. I was an hour early. A Master would be right on time. I am not entirely sure, myself, how to arrive in the midst of my departing. That's a lot of NOW-ness that I have not got. But, nonetheless, Chronos-a-mercy and the krik don't rise, Time is a huge key to working magic, as well as astrology. Chronology and clockery measure the QUANTITY of time. But only Astrology measures the QUALITY of time. Frawley has a chapter on this in REAL ASTROLOGY. And to make use of the QUALITY of time can be the province of magical practice. It may be that stripping away all of the fripperies of magic, as Chaos Magic does, permits one to focus on this QUALITY of time better.

Oh, and by "magic" here, I mean that variety of needajob, needafuck, needsomecash, needaflat, etc. magic. Practical stuff. You will not coax gold from lapis, bring a dead plant back to life (this is the same as making a living ens), or look into the Mirror of Nature with Chaos Magic. The method must match the goal. As I once spontaenously said to one of my younger students when I first started teaching: "My son, we cannot build the Eternal Temple of Adonai out of chicken nuggets."
